Choryang Above the Tracks
By Minjae · What's Up Korea Story
The hill is steep, but the harbor air makes the climb feel lighter.

Choryang has a set of five hillside lookouts and memory rooms above Busan Station. The streets are steep, the views open suddenly, and the mood changes fast between quiet alleys and big harbor air.
This is a lived in hillside area, so quiet voices, clear paths, and short photo stops matter around homes and narrow lanes.

Ibagu Workshop is a small neighborhood memory room, with a calm pace rather than a loud attraction. The inside stays quiet, with old Choryang stories, photos, and handmade details close enough to read slowly. It works as a pause from the slope because the room has shade. The draw is local texture, and the harbor view waits farther up the hill.

Kim Minbu Observatory · 김민부전망대
At Kim Minbu Observatory, the climb is steep before the view opens. Busan Station, the port, and Busan Harbor Bridge spread out in one frame, and the breeze at the top makes a longer pause easy. Little on site explains Kim Minbu, so the lookout works as a photo stop. Night suits the railing, with city lights below and less heat on the slope.

Choryang 168 Stairs · 초량 168계단
Choryang 168 Stairs looks simple from below until the angle shows itself. The steps are narrow and high enough to bother anyone uneasy with heights, and the climb gets rough when the hillside lift is unavailable. The reward is a clean city view over Busan, with port buildings and apartment towers lined up below. The crowd stays light, and the lane around the stairs is narrow. Knees and heat matter here.

Chaekmaru Observatory · 책마루전망대
A rooftop mood sets Chaekmaru Observatory apart from the steeper street lookouts. The elevator makes access easier once inside the library building, and the air at the top is cooler and quiet. The view is wide enough for photos, especially after dark, and the space is more managed than a casual street corner. Talking stays easy because the setting is calm.

168 The Deck · 168 더 데크
- Hours
- Open 24 hours
- Parking
- Public lot nearby
168 The Deck is tidy, simple, and easy to read as a public viewpoint. The open deck gives the view room to breathe, and guides on site can make the stop warmer than the boards suggest. The deck stays light, and strong sun leaves little shade, so cooler weather fits a longer pause. Fresh air is the point, and there is no indoor room to wait out the heat.
These Choryang stops suit clear weather, light bags, and a little patience with slopes. The views are the main draw, but the small neighborhood details stay with the visit too.
